Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson stated he narrowly avoided a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two safety personnel ran across the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident occurred on the third circuit when safety workers were observed on the circuit as Lawson was returning to the race following an early pitstop to change his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Moments later, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was observing"

"I came out on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two dudes sprinting across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but I've never experienced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a active circuit marshals can be allowed to just dash across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, is actively examining the events

"Following a turn one incident, race control was informed that fragments were located on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the FIA

"In the third rotation, safety personnel were notified and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the directives to deploy marshals were rescinded and a caution signal was shown in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what transpired subsequent to that time"
